Congratulations to the 2024 Anniversary Cup Winners
Congratulations to the 2024 Anniversary Cup winners: Jonathan Milford, Margaret Maclean, Jeanette Porter and Jim Pratt. The runners up were: Neil Barron, Debbie Manley, Colin Copp, John Currie and Gill Campbell.
Seven teams of 4 players took part in a Round Robin competition. The overall winner was the team with the highest shot difference over 6 matches of 3 ends each. Afterwards players and spectators enjoyed drinks and a buffet brought by our members.
We plan to run another Club competition on the same day as we close our green. This will be on Sunday 15 September starting at 2.00pm.

South Somerset Bowling League - Triangular Cup
Well done to our players who represented Chardstock Bowling Club in the Triangular Cup played at Merriott Bowling Club on Friday 16 August. Jeff Townsend, Penny Rasch, Carole Wyatt and Pete Rowley beat Ilminster 12-9. Neil Derbyshire, John Tooke, Vanessa Barron and Brian Wilton beat Merriott 15-12.
Despite winning both of our matches against Ilminster and Merriott and being the only Club to win both their matches, unfortunately we were runners up in the competition, losing by one shot overall to the winners Ilminster (based on most shots scored). Everyone enjoyed themselves and it was a chance for our new bowlers to enjoy playing in a cup competition against other clubs.
Well done to Jeff Townsend for organising the teams for the League and Cup.

Chardstock Men reach Finals
Well done to John Rolph and Vaughan Fletcher from Chardstock Bowling Club who played in the Section 3 Over 70s Pairs Final on Thursday 1 August at Madeira Bowling Club. This was the first year that the competition had been played.
In the Final, John and Vaughan played against Malcolm Seaborne and Trevor Pipe from Honiton Bowling Club and were unlucky to lose by 1 shot in the last end. The score being 20-21.
Earlier in the same day, John and Vaughan played in the Semi Finals against Bob Walker and Graham Clarkson from Madeira Bowling Club. John and Vaughan won 15-6.

Section 3 Ladies beat Bowls Devon County Ladies
Well done to Eileen Rolph and Debbie Manley who were selected to represent Chardstock in the Section 3 Ladies team against Bowls Devon Ladies in a match at Ottery St Mary on Monday 22 July. Eileen and Debbie were in separate teams and both their teams won on their rinks. Section 3 Ladies beat Bowls Devon Ladies by 3 shots. It was a very enjoyable and successful afternoon.
Eileen's team got the highest rink score and were presented with a pen.

Congratulations to the 2024 Marshall Davenport Cup Winners
Congratulations to the 2024 Marshall Davenport Cup winners: John Rolph, Jim Pratt, Colin Williamson. The cup was presented by Gill Campbell (Club Captain). The runners up were: Jonathan Milford, Carole Wyatt, Jeanette Porter.
A perfect afternoon for bowling outdoors. Two groups of four teams took part in three matches of 4 ends each. The two winners and runners up of the groups went through to the Semi Finals. Pizzas were enjoyed by everyone who participated or came to watch.
The last of our Club Cup Competitions is the Anniversary Cup on Sunday 25 August starting at 2.00pm.

Congratulations to the 2024 Golden Jubilee Cup Winners
Congratulations to the 2024 Golden Jubilee Cup winners: Neil Barron, Carol Wyatt, Jeff Townsend. The cup was presented by Gill Campbell (Club Captain) and the Cup competition was organised by Mike Copp (Competitions Secretary).
8 teams took part in a Round Robin competition of 5 sets of 3 ends. 4 of our new players also took part. We finished with drinks and a buffet brought by our members. A very enjoyable afternoon.
The next Club Competition is the Marshall Davenport Cup on Sunday 14 July starting at 2.00pm.

Congratulations to the 2024 Silver Jubilee Cup Winners
This year we tried a different format for our Silver Jubilee Cup Club competition on Sunday 9 June. Everyone took part in a group round of three matches of 4 ends each. The two winners and runners up of the groups went through to the Semi Finals after a cream tea.
The Final was between teams: Neil Barron, Jeanette Porter and Colin Copp v Sheila Jeffery, Brian Wilton and Rosie Pratt. A close game of 4 ends with Neil's team the winners and Sheila's team the runners up. Congratulations to all who took part.
The next Club Competition is for the Golden Jubilee Cup which is on Sunday 30 June starting at 2.00pm.

2024 Bowls Big Weekend Open Day - Sunday 26 May - Update
Not ideal weather for bowling, but some managed to try out bowling before the weather changed in the afternoon.
You are welcome to come and try out bowling at our Club. Come up at 6.00pm on Monday evenings to have a go when our coaches will show you what to do. All equipment is provided. Wear flat shoes. See our Invitation to bowl.
Mondays are our roll up evenings when new people learn how to bowl, our members enjoy a social game with other members or just practise. Our qualified coaches Debbie and Gill are on hand to help you.

Silver Medalist
Daniel Humphreys was awarded a Silver medal when he represented England in the Munro Cup 2024 at Falkirk Indoor Bowls Club on 24-25 April 2024.

Open Day Update
We welcomed visitors to our Open Day on Saturday (27 April). All were keen to have a go despite the weather and managed to try out bowls before the rain came in. Afterwards all warmed up in our Clubhouse and had a drink. We hope to see some of them at our free coaching evening on Mondays. More photos to follow.
If you missed our April Open Day or want to have another go, come along to our "Bowls Big Weekend" Open Day event on Sunday 26 May 11.00am - 4.00pm. Wear flat shoes and we will provide the rest of the equipment.

Congratulations to Daniel
We are very proud of our member Daniel Humphreys who has been selected for the Team England Squad to defend the Learning Disabilities Indoor Bowls International Series "Munro Cup 2024" which will be held at Falkirk Indoor Bowls Club on the 24th and 25th April 2024.
Daniel also plays indoors at Bridport BC. He is one of two players from Bowls Devon to be selected. We wish him every success in the Munro Cup 2024.

Congratulations to our Club Coaches
Gordon Bodily retired as our Club Coach at the end of the 2023 outdoor season. In recognition of his contribution and service to the Club over many years, the Club has awarded Gordon an honorary life membership.
Gordon was a Level 3 Coach with the English Bowls Coaching Society. He leaves the Club in good hands with our Club Coaches: Debbie Manley and Gill Campbell.
Congratulations to Debbie who has just received her Level 2 English Bowls Coaching Society. Gordon helped Debbie to gain her Level 1 (in 2021) and Level 2 English Bowls Coaching Society qualifications.
Both Debbie and Gill were awarded their Level 1 Coach Bowls qualifications earlier this year.
